Brookner has produced an unusual and brilliant study of six of the most famous and distinguished French writers on the arts : Diderot, Stendhal, Huysmans, Zola, the Goncourts and of course Baudelaire. It was originally planned as a course in the French art criticism given at the Courtauld Institute in the University of London, but then escalated into six of the Cambridge Slade Lectures we have today. Condition is very fine and the cover is immaculate.
